Michele the Vamp from New York band Loki the Grump talks us through five of her favourite albums:
“So... I tried to do a top 5 albums of all time... and I almost went insane
trying to whittle it down to just 5...
So... I tried to do a 'current' top 5... but for some reason I couldn't make
that happen either.
SO... I'm giving you my 'last 5 in rotation' list.
KAISER CHIEFS - YOURS TRULY, ANGRY MOB - This one was a sleeper for me (or 'grower' for you UK types). I absolutely LOVED Employment, so was quite anticipating this one. At first listen, I was a little
disappointed. By third listen, I was hooked. I love it! So now I play
it all the time!
THE FRATELLIS - COSTELLO MUSIC - Loved this album first time I heard
it. Was turned on to them by a friend looong before the album came out.
Full of great energy and edge - perfect combo!
THE EDITORS - THE BACK ROOM - Just got introduced to them.
Immediately got into them. Just good ole rock'n'roll with catchy
melodies. Good stuff.
JOE JACKSON - STEPPIN' OUT, THE VERY BEST OF... - What can I say about this? He's a brilliant songwriter, and I just love this man's music SO
much!! Of course, I love his individual albums.. but sometimes I just
need the music to go on and on, and these two discs are chock full
o'songs.
ROLLINS BAND - THE END OF SILENCE - Obviously this wasn't all in one
day... cause going from Rollins to Joe isn't my usual 'flow'. This album
just rocks like crazy. Amazing musicianship - blues riffs blended with
hard rock and repetitive hooks with completely relatable lyrics and gruff
and rough vocals - mmmmmmm!!!! I can really get my hooks into this one
and get all my aggression out. Rollins has such a way with words, and a
delivery like none other. This classic line-up was totally unbeatable!! Was thrilled that they re-formed for a tour last summer.”
